Lancaster, PA

It's been a long time since we roamed around a new area without a clear plan, and it was more fun than I remember. We spent a half day in downtown Lancaster on our mini-vacation through Amish Country (which is about 2 hours west of Philadelphia).

Cool church building and the beginning of fall.

Bio-fence! Reminds me of what Amanda did here.

This place is cool. If I lived in Lancaster, I'd be here all the time. The people are super friendly, their space has a nice layout and they hold art classes and live music concerts in their garage.

Then we stumbled upon "Building Character", which was like a Reading Terminal Market for things:

Last stop: Lancaster Brewing Company, a microbrewery pumping out craft beers since 1995.

The "Baked Pumpkin Ale". It is everything you want in a Fall beer. It tastes like you're eating your grandma's pumpkin pie.

Yellowfin tuna eggrolls. We ordered other food too, but this was the most delicious.

Beer flight! My favorite was their Oktoberfest. It has good flavor, but is light enough so you don't feel too full after. I ended up taking a 6-pack home with me. My 2nd favorite was the double chocolate milk stout. I don't normally like dark beers, but this one tasted like I was drinking boozy chocolate. So that was fun.

I asked Alan to take a picture of the sign so I could put the beer in my backpack. And this is what he got. He is convinced that this is the best picture of the trip.

As the sun was setting, we headed back to our countryside Bed and Breakfast and fell asleep by 9:30pm, just like any pair of young, hip city-folk would.
