November was one busy month full of birthdays, holiday prepping and hosting my family for Thankgiving. One of the last fall-ish activities I got to do was apple picking with Winnie and our guys. We went out to Linvilla Orchards in Media, PA about 30 minutes outside of Philly. We lucked out with sunny and crisp fall weather so before heading out to the orchards we warmed up with some mulled wine from Penn Woods Winery. It was delicous!
Later we jumped on a tractor full of hay and were driven out to the orchards. We weren't sure if we going to find lots of apples left since we thought it was so late in the season, but we were wrong. Linvilla had so many apples ready to be picked and many varieties too! Our favorites were the Granny Smith, Pink Lady, and Aztec apples. We definitely did our own apple tasting out there, though I'm not sure you're allowed to eat before you buy.
Oh, and I have to share this fun game we came up with . We found an apple picker attached to to a long pole that we used to play catch. The person with the apple picker was the catcher, and the rest of us took turns launching decomposing apples in the air for them to catch. We had such a good laugh acting like kids again.
After an afternoon of apple picking we buillt up an appetite so we went to Sterling Pig Brewery, a microbrewery pub in Media. Unfortuantely I did not take any food pictures there, but I highly recommend it for their beers. I got a beer flight to try 4 of their beers and they were tasty.
I'm certain that apple picking season is definitely over by now, but Linvilla does have a Christmas tree field and they offer "Cut your own tree". So if you're still looking for a tree, Linvilla Orchards is a great place to spend the afternoon with friends or family.
